Spain

Spain's powerful world empire of the 16th and 17th centuries ultimately yielded command of the seas to England. Subsequent failure to embrace the mercantile and industrial revolutions caused the country to fall behind Britain, France, and Germany in economic and political power. Spain remained neutral in World Wars I and II, but suffered through a devastating Civil War (1936-39). In the second half of the 20th century, it has played a catch-up role in the western international community. Continuing concerns are large-scale unemployment and the Basque separatist movement.

YWAM in SPAIN:
YWAM teams were first sent to Spain around 1967. A base was first established in 1972. Currently about 50 staff serve at 7 various locations, involved in a variety of ministries, through training (DTS, Spanish Language School, School of Church Planting), King's Kids, Family Ministries, and several ministries reaching out to tourists, the local church, children, and ministry to Muslims in Spain and North Africa.

Through prayer, many doors are opening to minister in local churches. There is receptivity amongst the Muslims in Barcelona, and a growing openness among the Spanish people.

Prayer needs:

prayer needs:
- for unity in the churches
- for wisdom in working among Catholics
- for the small nation states attached to Spain: Andorra (in the Pyrennees mountains between Spain and France) and Gibraltor (colony on the rocky peninsula on south coast of Spain), where we have no YWAM works and very little evangelical witness reaching out into their communities.
