Despite its neutrality, Norway was not able to avoid occupation by Germany in World War II. In 1949, neutrality was abandoned and Norway became a member of NATO. Discovery of oil and gas in adjacent waters in the late 1960s boosted Norway's economic fortunes. The current focus is on containing spending on the extensive welfare system and planning for the time when petroleum reserves are depleted. In referenda held in 1972 and 1994, Norway rejected joining the EU.
YWAM in NORWAY:
YWAM Norway began in 1972 with Eivind Froen starting from a small cell in Oslo during the Jesus movement. There are now 6 bases, 2 coffee bars, and 2 ministry offices, with 180 staff, and 80 people working abroad. In Norway 10 DTS's are run through the year, including a new teen DTS (16-19 year students), and also many second level schools like SBS and SOFM. Family Ministries is one of the largest works with about 2000 people taking part in schools and summer activities. Creative weekends and workshops, youth festivals, Mercy Ministry, Mission resource center, coffee bars, and a Prayer ministry [with a prayer chain of 600 intercessors] are also part of the YWAM calendar. Many churches have invited YWAM to teach in evening schools. Impact World Tours have resulted in hundreds of new believers needing to be discipled in new relevant structures in several cities including Skien and Bergen.
prayer needs:
- for a possible new base in northern Norway.
- for Impact World Tour, for harvesting and the following up after the campaign.
- for new breakthroughs for the family work and the new youth programs.
- for all the DTS students - around 180 each year.
- for unity among the churches and revival among the youth.
