France is the second largest country in Western Europe. The Christian presence is predominantly Catholic, but calling oneself Catholic has more to do with culture than faith. A mission field itself, large sections of French society are unreached by the Gospel.
Although ultimately a victor in World Wars I and II, France suffered extensive losses in its empire, wealth, manpower, and rank as a dominant nation-state. Since 1958, it has constructed a presidential democracy resistant to the instabilities experienced in earlier parliamentary democracies. In recent years, its reconciliation and cooperation with Germany have proved central to the economic integration of Europe, including the advent of the euro in January 1999. Today, France is at the forefront of European states seeking to exploit the momentum of monetary union to advance the creation of a more unified and capable European defense and security apparatus.
YWAM in FRANCE:
YWAM France started back in 1978 in a tiny village in the Champagne area with a team of about 30 people coming from Lausanne, Switzerland led by Daniel Schaerer. Jeunesse en Mission has around 100 staff at 2 main bases, Le Gault-La-Foret outside of Paris, and St Paul-Trois-Chateaux, south of Lyon. with several teams working in other locations. Schools include DTSs, Schools of Frontier Mission, a School of Art and a Counseling School.
YWAM France has 'adopted' several countries in the French speaking nations, as well as several Unreached People Groups like the Tuaregs, Lebus, Tukulor, Fulanis, in West Africa, the Comorian people in France and on Comore Island, and the Koriak in Kamchatka. A cell group movement has started in Marseille targeting several unreached people groups.
Other ministries include King's Kids, full time Evangelism teams, Summers of Service in Marseille, and annual youth camps.
prayer needs:
- for church planting and a new creativity in evangelism and pioneer ministries for cities.
- for a new generation of young YWAMers and for the recruiting of young people.
- for mobilization of the French church into missions and frontier missions.
- for the French part of Europe. French is such a beautiful language and is spoken in a number of lands outside of France. Belgium and witzerland have large populations of French speakers and of course, Monaco. Pray that this wonderful gift of language will be used to send missionaries to all the French world which extends through Africa and Polynesia.
