Belgium

Belgium became independent from the Netherlands in 1830; it was occupied by Germany during World Wars I and II. It has prospered in the past half century as a modern, technologically advanced European state and member of NATO and the EU. Tensions between the Dutch-speaking Flemings of the north and the French-speaking Walloons of the south have led in recent years to constitutional amendments granting these regions formal recognition and autonomy.

YWAM in BELGIUM:
Belgium is traditionally Catholic, [0.5 % protestants]. Belgium used to be a top mission sending nation. YWAM wants to be instrumental in recuperating this heritage.

YWAM Belgium is involved in Pro-life ministry in Brussels, advertising free pregnancy test and counseling in the metro's. The YWAM Bookshop has been very fruitful as an instrument to build relationships in the city. The "Living Waters" ministry aids people recovering from sexual brokenness. Youth work includes a cafe hang out for teenagers, as well as festivals, camps, discipleship weekends, youth alpha, evangelism in schools, etc. Mobilising young people during school holidays through short term teams has proven to be the most fruitful tool for discipleship.

YWAM co-sponsors the annual New Europe Student Forum - seeking to give
students a Kingdom vision for their profession and coach them to become leaders in future Europe.

prayer needs:
- for Belgians as well as foreigners to join the small YWAM team, especially youth workers.

- thanks to God for finances, buildings, opportunities both in and outside Belgium to do missionary work.

- for the hearts of the Flemish and Walloon people to open for a massive 're-introduction to the gospel.

- for the work of the Alpha groups.

- for unity among Christians

- and for openness to learn from each other: for evangelicals, who have much to give in areas as bible study, evangelism and discipleship, and for Catholics, who have much to give in areas as social implications of the gospel, holistic thinking, and cultural relevance.
