Our Brazilian family needs your help. Their very existence is being threatened. Just as they would help you in a time of need, we are asking that you help them.

The core issue they are facing is infanticide. Hundreds of children in the Amazon are being buried alive every year (see www.hakani.org). Our Brazilian family is on the front lines of this issue. They are partnering with the indigenous people of the Amazon to stop this gruesome practice. In doing so, they have confronted a government system of intimidation that places value on indigenous culture over and above the lives of the tribal people. Any interference with this system is answered with threats of forced removal from the region, lawsuits, separation of legally adopted children from their parents and persecution.

We have the opportunity to link arms as a global family with a unified effort. A law has been submitted to the Brazilian Congress (called "Muwaji's Law" named after the first indigenous woman to refuse to kill her handicapped child). This law addresses the constitutional rights of indigenous children to receive aid when their lives are being threatened. It would extend to tribal children the same government protection that other Brazilian children receive. This law is scheduled for consideration before the Brazilian Congress next month (throughout the month of June 2008).

Our prayer is that Muwaji's Law will shine a bright light on this and related issues of injustice the indigenous endure and that it will put pressure on the government to cease intimidation of our family members who are engaged in this struggle to protect the lives of indigenous children.

We are asking YWAM locations to set aside one hour within the next two weeks to learn more about this issue. Each location will receive a 35-minute film "HAKANI" made by David Cunningham on DVD to be viewed and followed up with a 25-minute GENESIS video-or skype- conferencing link with David Cunningham and his team.

An information and action kit will give all the information needed and during the live GENESIS/Skype connection, we will ask for four volunteers to work from your location to give seven days during the month of June to work on this project. The campaign will include specific emailing, blogging, interaction with your local media, community and government officials and more. Muwaji's Law will only be passed with urgent and immediate help from a multitude of international sources raising their voice to speak for the innocent.
