How to get to Herrnhut!

Car

From Berlin

  • Take the Autobahn A 13 in direction Dresden
  • Exit Dresden Nord ( 82) to A 4 direction Görlitz
  • See directions “From Dresden”

From Dresden

  • On the A4 direction to Goerlitz, exit at Bautzen Ost (90)
  • turn left to Bautzen 156 (6)
  • At the second set of traffic lights turn left to Loebau (6)
  • Before  you get to Loebau(soon after the town Nechen) turn left to Zittau (178)
  • Keep going straight (Herrnhut is now signposted) until you hit a T-junction
  • Turn left to Zittau/Herrnhut
  • At the second set of traffic lights turn right to Zittau/Herrnhut (178)
  • This road (178) takes you straight to Herrnhut (12 km)
  • When you are in Herrnhut continue driving straight through the town
  • You will then drive down a hill through a small forest for approx. 500 meters. At the bottom of the hill turn right into a small road to “Ruppersdorf” (signposted).
  • After 200 metres you cross a little bridge and turn right again (Untere Dorfstraße)
  • You can see the Wasserschloss of YWAM Herrnhut on the right hand side, our house number is 56

From Zittau / Czech, Poland border

  • take the 178 (B18) direction to Loebau
  • After approx. 12 km soon after going through Euldorf (before going into Herrnhut) turn left in direction Ruppersdorf (this turn off is in the forest and can easily be missed)
  • After 200 metres turn right into Untere Dorfstrasse
  • You can see the Wasserschloss of YWAM Herrnhut on the right hand side, our house number is 56

Train

Check out timetables and prices on www.bahn.de – for English click on “Internat. Guests” (centre, top). The nearest train stations to Herrnhut are Loebau (Sachsen) if you are coming from direction Dresden and Zittau coming from Berlin. We will be able to pick you up in Loebau or Zittau train stations. Please let us know your arrival time in your registration under “Pick up”.

Many states in Germany have very cheap group tickets for local trains that are valid in one state. There is more detailed information on train connections from Berlin and Dresden in the “Plane” section below. You will often come across the word “Bahnhof” - this means train station.

Plane

Prague (Praha) Airport to Varnsdorf (Czech town close to Herrnhut)
At the Airport in Prague you will first take the “Airport bus” to Praha, Nádrazí Holešovice Departure: every 30 min at the airport
From Praha, Nádrazí Holešovice you can take the bus directly to Varnsdorf, aut.nádr. (town at the German border ) From there we will pick you up. Please let us know in your registration under “Pick up”. The bus trip takes about 2, 5 hours and goes constantly every 30 min or 1 hour. It is around 4 Euro for a one way trip. Dresden Airport to Loebau (Sachsen)
If you are arriving by plane into Dresden you can take the “S-Bahn” (Suburban Railway) or bus from the airport to the train station Dresden Klotzsche. Departure: every 30 min or 1 hour, depends on your arrival time. It will take you ca. 5 min from the airport to get to the train station Dresden Klotzsche. From the train station in Dresden Klotzsche you take the train to Loebau (Sachsen).
It will take you approx. 1 hour 20 minutes to go from Dresden Klotzsche to Loebau. A single one way ticket is 12, 40 Euro. We will pick you up at the train station in Loebau (Sachsen). Please let us know your arrival time in your registration under “Pick up”.
Timetables and prices are available on www.bahn.de – for English click on “Internat. Guests” (centre, top). If you are travelling in a group (3-5 pers.) the “Saxony ticket” will be cheaper for you: EUR 26 if you buy your ticket online or at the ticket machine.
This ticket is valid from Monday to Friday for one day of your choice from 9 a.m. until 3 a.m. of the following day (on bank holidays for the whole day). It can be used on all local trains (Interregio-Express, Regional-Express, Regionalbahn, S-Bahn) and local busses. Up to 5 people can travel with one “Sachsen Ticket”.

Berlin Airport Tegel  to Zittau
If you are arriving by plane in Berlin Tegel you can take either bus X9 to Berlin Zoo (20 min) or bus number TXL to Berlin Hauptbahnhof (15 min) – both are two major train stations.
From both Bahnhof Berlin Zoo or Berlin Hauptbahnhof you can take the train to Cottbus. There you change into a train called “Lausitzbahn” (“Connex” - privately owned) and go to Zittau (last stop). There we will be able to pick you up. Please let us know your arrival time in your registration under “Pick up”.
It will take you approx. 3,5h to get from Berlin to Zittau by train. A single one way ticket is 39,70 Euro. Timetables and prices are available on www.bahn.de – for English click on “Internat. Guests” (centre, top).

If you are travelling in a group the “Brandenburg-Berlin-Ticket” is cheaper. This is valid for the trip to Cottbus. It is 21 Euro for up to 5 people. This ticket is valid from Monday to Sunday for one day of your choice from 9 a.m. until 3 a.m. of the following day (on bank holidays for the whole day). It can be used on all local trains (Regional-Express, Regionalbahn, S-Bahn Berlin) in Berlin and Brandenburg. For your onward journey from Cottbus to Zittau on the Lausitzbahn you will have to buy a group ticket once you are in the train. (please call 03581-76760 to reserve the group ticket with the “Lausitzbahn” train beforehand)

Airport Berlin Schoenefeld to Zittau
If you are arriving by plane from Berlin Schoenefeld you can either go to the city centre and travel as mentioned above or catch a quicker connection by taking a train to Königs Wusterhausen, from there to Cottbus and there you change into a train called “Lausitzbahn” (“Connex” - privately owned) and go to Zittau (last stop). There we will be able to pick you up. Please let us know your arrival time in your registration under “Pick up”.
It will take you approx. 3,5h to get from Berlin to Zittau by train. A single one way ticket is 43,10 Euro. Timetables and prices are available on www.bahn.de – for English click on “Internat. Guests” (centre, top).

If you are travelling in a group the “Brandenburg-Berlin-Ticket” is cheaper. This is valid for the trip to Cottbus. It is 21 Euro for up to 5 people. Airport Altenburg (near Leipzig)
Either get a rental car or catch a bus to Leipzig train station. From there you need to catch a train to Dresden and then to Loebau (Sachsen). Also check out www.flugplatz-altenburg.de for further information.

It will take you approx. 3,5h by train. We will pick you up at the train station in Loebau (Sachsen). Please let us know your arrival time in your registration under “Pick up”.
